Choosing the Right eq pedals for bass - What to Consider Beforhand

What goes first EQ or crossover?

When using both an equalizer and a crossover the equalizer is connected before the crossover. There are several reasons for this – one of which is the role of an equalizer versus what a crossover does.

Should I set my subwoofer phase to 0 or 180?

Typically, though, phase is left at 0° for most applications. While seated in your listening sweet spot, play music with bass content that is familiar to you and then have someone switch the 0/180 phase switch on the sub to 180-degrees. This will let you determine if the bass sounds louder in your seating position.

Is 35 Hz low enough?

For the most part 35Hz is fine for music, but 20-25Hz is better for movies. As of late even broadcast TV has begun to push below 35Hz. There's plenty of sub-20Hz content in movies, but you need a pretty substantial system to reproduce it at levels high enough to make it useful.

What should a bass EQ look like?

Key Frequency Ranges to EQ Bass 80 – 200 Hz: Fullness. Boosting here adds depth and body, solidifying a robust low end. 200 – 300 Hz: Muddiness loves to live in the 200 to 300 Hz range. If you find your bass guitar lacks clarity, try cutting frequencies in this range to clear things up.

The bass mid and treble should be set at a ratio of 4:5 as a rule of thumb. Don't overdo your bass adjustments, or your music will be distorted.
