Looking for the Perfect delay pedals - The Buying Guide
What does a delay pedal do?
A delay pedal is a stompbox effect that records and plays back any music fed into it. Usually this playback happens in milliseconds. When playback is rapid, a delay pedal produces a “slapback” effect—an instant, snappy reverberation of what was played.
Which is better analog or digital delay?
Analog delays can sound extremely musical and pleasing, and some guitarists don't like their signal to be converted to digital if they can help it. But digital delays offer immense amounts of flexibility — including analog delay emulations, precise delay time control, preset memories, and other features.
Can I plug a synth into a line input?
Recording keyboards and synths can be straightforward. These instruments usually have line-level outputs, which connect straight into an audio interface's line inputs, making it simple to get a great recording quickly.
Why are analog pedals better?
Instead of going through algorithms, the signal in analog pedals goes through capacitors, resistors, and transistors, and sometimes even tubes. This might provide you with more dynamic response compared to standard digital effects. It's usually the vintage lovers that enjoy this kind of sound and dynamic response.
Did Jimi Hendrix use delay?
Jimi Hendrix didn't use delay very often but you can hear it from time to time. All along the watchtower gives a great example of how Hendrix used delay (read my guide on the effects used in All Along The Watchtower here).
Do I need reverb if I have delay?
It really depends on what type of effect you're after. If you only want to add more presence, with an echo type effect, then you'll probably only really need a reverb pedal. But if you want to repeat notes to create a more specific effect, then you'll benefit from getting a delay pedal too.
Are strymon pedals the best?
Absolutely. Strymon manufactures some of the best guitar pedals in the world. They offer a high quality sound and an extremely wide range of tonal possibilities. Whether you're looking for a delay, reverb or something else, Strymon is definitely one of the best choices out there.
What gauge does slash use?
11-48
Slash uses Ernie Ball Paradigm guitar strings with a gauge of 11-48. Slash uses heavier gauge strings because he tunes down as well as plays with an aggressive attack.

Steve loves music. Steve Romanoski and his wife live in Alaska. They are always on the go, exploring new places and trying out new products (especially those which can help them enjoy the great musics even more). When he's not writing about products, Steve Romanoski enjoys reading books about history and science. He likes to think of himself as a renaissance man, but his wife would probably say that he's just a big kid at heart.
